Positive Affirmations are a life-saver, man.
I can’t even count how many times I’ve been close to being overwhelmed completely (at work, in the dentist office, etc) but was able to calm myself by focusing on my positive affirmations. I know, it can sound silly at first; I kept refusing to use it myself. This method was given to me in a way that finally worked by somebody who had me write down every negative thought I ever had about myself. I came back very quickly with full pages worth of negative thoughts. He then wrote the word “LIES” across the page, handed it back, and said I had to come back with that many thoughts but positive things instead. It took days, but the exercise was worth it.
My method now is to pick three thoughts that work the best for whatever situation I’m facing and repeat them over and over to myself. The one that almost always stays in the front of my mind was given to me by one of my best friends when we were young teens: I am worth it
So if you need this as much as I do, I made a little printable! It’s available in a 5×7 size as well as an 11×17 size.
